Elephant Parade talks to Swiss artist Denis Roueche from Neuchâtel. Roueche holds a Bachelor from the University of Art and Design in Lausanne (ECAL) in Switzerland. In addition to his personal and interdisciplinary artistic practice, Roueche teaches at ECAL, at the EPFL ECAL Lab and is the founder of the Palais-Galerie in Neuchâtel.

What are you trying to communicate with your art?

This artistic intervention is a game. The elephant would like to eat the peanut, but the elephant is afraid of the mouse. As we say… "Who loves well, punishes well" (in any case in French :).  It loosely means people who love you, might be hard on you but it is for your own good.

What are the moods/themes that come to mind when thinking about elephants?

My thoughts are positive. I remember the Knie elephants swimming in Lake Neuchâtel, the city where I come from in Switzerland. It was a beautiful image, like the vision of a dream, yet it was real.

What's your favourite animal?

I think it's the dinosaurs.
