Concrete Jungle
The “Concrete Jungle Elephant” is based on a series that I’m currently working on called the “Concrete Jungle”. At first glance, it appears to be just a colourful elephant. And if people like it for that reason then of course that makes me feel good, but the idea behind it has a social undertone. You see an abstract city, which only consists of square windows. It’s built up by adding layer upon layer and is something that should be beautiful, but at the same time, is it something that’s worth building over everything else? Elephant Parade invokes a similar feeling in me. I can imagine the initial reaction for most people is “Gee, aren’t all these colourful elephants nice!”. Once they hear the idea behind it, it can be a positive way to encourage reflection in people. Whoever buys my miniature is taking home a true work of art and also ensuring that the plight of the Asian elephant gets the attention it deserves. That’s a really nice thought.
