Heerlen Auction Raises 355,000 EURO

The auction of 38 art elephants in Heerlen this afternoon was a tremendous success: a stunning 355,000 euro was raised. The top selling piece, l'Adieu Impossible, was made by artist duo Les Deux Garcons and was sold for 36,000 euro. The organisation is thrilled: "This is beyond all expectations!"

The auction at APG was the grand finale of a two month exhibition in the streets of Heerlen, which started on March 25th. Fourty life-sized baby elephants - painted by local and international artists - have since then brightened the streets of the Dutch city. Recently, the tourist office announced that thanks to Elephant Parade, Heerlen has seen a 30% increase in the number of people visiting their town.

Part of all proceeds raised during the auction are donated to The Asian Elephant Foundation, that invests in elephant conservation projects.
