DADA, The Surrealist Elephant

by Rosihan Dahim

"The eye shelters a dreamer while a hidden mask and tongue below depicts an elusiveness. The snake on the lips defines a mystical charm. The hands gripping the drape indicates strength. Thefuture is measured by the opening drawers on the elephant's trunk. The red head matchstick clinging on the forehead symbolises a struggle. My work identifies the elephant's timeless journey of struggle and change. From memory and influences, I was inspired by these images to depict the golden age of the elephant while paying homage to the Surrealists who had envisaged them in their paintings. Among them Salvador Dali,RenĂ© Magritte, Giorgio de Chirico, Man Ray, Joan MirĂ³ and Max Ernst."
