"The start point for the elephant was the Indonesian Batik from the fabrics of Edward Hutabarat. We wanted to incorporate a contemporary feel to these designs. I found some photos of the skeleton of a young bird and used this image alongside the design of the Batik flowers to show two contrasting and yet beautiful designs. The use of the fluorescent paint gives the elephant another dimension-by night, its appearance will again be transformed into a more geometric construction, echoing the form of the sculpture itself, in contrast to the more organic treatment by day."
