Die Elefanten sind zurück! Ab Ende November 2021 stehen auf dem Rapperswiler Hauptplatz rund 30 grosse Elefanten-Skulpturen. Kunstschaffende aus aller Welt haben farbenprächtige, witzige, eitle, scheue und philosophische Elefanten kreiert, deren Botschaften ans Herz gehen.
Die Elephant Parade verbindet Kunst und Artenschutz. Die Initianten Franco und Claudia Knie machen damit auf die Notlage der Asiatischen Elefanten aufmerksam. Der Erlös aus der Ausstellung fliesst in Projekte, mit denen Asiatische Elefanten und ihr Lebensraum geschützt werden.

In den letzten 100 Jahren ist der Lebensraum der Asiatischen Elefanten massiv geschrumpft und ihre Population um 90 Prozent gesunken. Nur noch knapp 50.000 Tiere existieren.
Da die Geschichte der Familie Knie seit über 100 Jahren eng mit Elefanten verbunden ist, geht Franco und Claudia Knie das Schiksal der Tiere besonders nahe. "Mit der Elephant Parade wollen wir die Menschen für die Situation der Elefanten sensibilisieren und einen Beitrag dazu leisten, sie und ihren Lebensraum zu schützen", sagt Franco Knie.
